What an RFID energy saving switch controls

An RFID energy saving switch turns room power on only for the card that belongs to that room. Unlike a universal switch, this RFID hotel switch validates the card's room identity, so a guest cannot take a card from room 201 and keep room 202 powered. For properties that already issue MIFARE or Temic cards, the RFID energy saving switch is the default upgrade.

RFID hotel switch vs universal card switch

The universal hotel key card switch accepts any card; the RFID energy saving switch accepts only the room-bound card. That single difference is what stops card-sharing — the most common way hotels lose the energy saving a card switch is supposed to deliver.

How the MIFARE power switch works
